  Primary Source: Tim Carson's Our Family Tree: Eli William Carson was born November 14, 1836 in Morgan Co. Indiana. His parents were Jessie and Mary (Williams) Carson. Eli married Melissa Humphrey October 16, 1861 at Decorah, Iowa. Eli enlisted in the Union Army August 21, 1862 and was mustered out August 15, 1865 as a 2nd Lieutenant of company D of the 38th infantry. Eli and Melissa had 13 children. Eli was remembered at his time of death with this tribute: "He was a man of jovial disposition and of ready wit, and his nature was such as makes and keeps friends."
